We are pleased to announce that the Texas Department of Insurance has agreed to issue a license to our MEWA Health Benefit Trust, and we are now ready to begin to enroll members. Please watch for details on informational meetings to learn more about this exciting new program that will offer an array of health care options that promise to be superior to similar programs, and at a competitive price. By becoming a part of a large plan, members will benefit directly from economies of scale that are unavailable to small and mid-size employers purchasing separate group insurance policies.

The MEWA offers:

  • A suite of ancillary benefits such as dental, vision and, over time, other programs that will enhance the initial offering;
  • Lower cost structure than what is available in the traditional insurance market;
  • Greater control over design — a plan that meets a variety of needs;
  • Three plan designs: Premium, Standard and High Deductible;
  • A greater opportunity to negotiate pricing; and
  • Increased ability to predict annual expense through the consolidation of a large number of smaller employers into a single purchasing entity.

In addition, the Trust will provide a variety of administrative services for participants, including compliance with Federal and State regulations, handling employee questions and inquiries, distributing plan information, interfacing with regulatory agencies, maintaining eligibility records and providing an appeals process for disputes. The state’s requirement for the license is to raise the reserve contribution before issuance of insurance. A large number of members have already expressed their intent to participate. The MEWA is an initiative FOR members, designed BY members. It is YOUR plan and will be a big competitive advantage for many members.

MEWA Informational Sessions to be held at HBA Offices, 5816 W. Plano Pkwy., Plano, will be announced soon. Watch for details.
